I am a researcher and consultant, working at the intersection of technology, business, and creative industries from a critical left perspective.
I am a sessional teaching academic, as well as a creative industries strategy consultant. My teaching and research areas of interest include: digital platform sovereignty and regulation, digital labour rights, the intersection of technology and creative practice, and practice-based research. My current PhD research examines FinTech through a critical media studies framework, and my recent Master of Research thesis examined platform responses to Australia’s news media bargaining code. I also hold a Master of Commerce.
From 2017-2020 I was the owner of Platform Gallery in the Blue Mountains, which I believe to be Australia’s first commercial feminist art gallery. I am also a burlesque performer, creating critical works that challenge dominant narratives and create space for under-represented stories and bodies. In 2020 I was the recipient of a performing arts residency with the Flying Nun by Brand X, where I produced Tricky Thick, a sell-out burlesque show cast exclusively with fat performers from the US, NZ and across Australia.
